CanLoad runs before a lazy-loaded module is fetched, so it can block the actual loading of that module until the defined conditions are met. If CanLoad returns false (or redirects via a UrlTree), Angular won’t load the module chunk at all, preventing the lazy-loaded module from being loaded. This is exactly what lets you gate access to a feature module, for example by checking authentication or permissions before the module is downloaded.

CanActivate, by contrast, is checked after the module is loaded to decide whether a route can be activated. CanActivateChild applies to child routes, and CanDeactivate runs when navigating away from a route.
